Cinematic teaser in four shots, shot on 35mm film, low-key tungsten and red safelight practicals, smoky mid-century grade, mild grain, gentle handheld — a police darkroom, 1948. SHOT 1 (setup): a homicide detective, tie loosened, nicotine-stained fingers, rocks a print in the developer tray with tongs under the red safelight; a crime-scene photograph blooms up through the liquid — a sheeted body on wet cobbles, a crowd behind the rope. SHOT 2 (turn): pegging prints along the drying line he stops — the same man in a pale raincoat stands in the crowd of every photograph, different streets, different nights. SHOT 3 (escalation): he snatches a loupe and works down the line print by print, breath quickening, cigarette burning forgotten in the ashtray — in each photograph the man in the raincoat stands one step closer to the camera. SHOT 4 (hard cut): the last print swims into focus in the tray: the raincoat man fills the frame, staring straight into the lens — and behind the detective, the seam of light under the darkroom door goes dark as something crosses it — hard cut to black. Audio: chemical slosh, a timer ticking, prints dripping, the safelight's hum, one floorboard settling outside the door — no speech, no voices, no music
